John J. Galka Jr., beloved husband and father, passed away on Oct. 25 at the age of 83, while at the VA Medical Center Hospice Center after a long battle with kidney failure.
He was born on May 29, 1924, in Leavenworth, Kan., to John J. Galka Sr. and Josephine Swanek. As a young adult, he lived in both Ord and Grand Island, Neb. While living in Nebraska, he enjoyed playing in Polka bands and was proud of his Polish heritage. He served in the 101st Airborne Division as a Paratrooper during WWII and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and Military Order of the Cooties. John moved to Cheyenne in 1955 where he worked as a Pharmacist at Bunten Pharmacy and at Roedel's Drug.
